Probate is the procedure by which a will is approved by the court as the valid last will of the deceased. Probate confirms the appointment of the person named in the will as the estate trustee (executor) of the estate or, where there is no will, the application confirms the person appointed by the Court to be the trustee (executor) of the estate.
A Probate application is now called an “Application for Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee with a Will” or ”Application for Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee without a Will”.
